Busby Marou to put on a ‘real show’ in first Mildura appearance

FANS of Busby Marou can “finally” start counting down the days that the band will perform in Mildura.

Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou will perform their well-known hits as well as a “bunch of new ones” at the Back to Base festival concert at Nowingi Place in March.

“We have never been there, we have come very close a few times, been offered to perform in and around the area but it has sort of just fallen through, so we are really excited,” Busby said.

“We have lots of fans and lots of Busby Marou fans from the first album too, we keep promising we will come down and we finally have that opportunity.”

It was over a decade ago that the pair began playing music together after their initial music connection at a pub in Rockhampton.

Since then they have had millions of global streams, top 20 airplay and four ARIA charting albums. Busby Marou’s self-titled album is certified ARIA Gold, while their most recent album The Great Divide and Farewell Fitzroy debuted in the top five on and Postcards From The Shell House was Busby Marou’s first ARIA #1 album.

With restrictions easing across Australia, Busby said it is “great” to be able to get back on the road, doing what they love most.

“We have been more fortunate than most other bands because we are in Queensland, we have been playing quite a few gigs, but it does feel like everything is on a bit of a hold when the rest the industry at a stand still,” he said.

“Feels like next year everything is about to boom, fingers crossed, everyone is waiting with anticipation.

“We are really excited to be bringing the full band to Mildura; (the audience) will hear songs from all of the albums, so all the old songs and then we have a bunch of new songs we have been working on as well.

“Next year we are stepping it up the band format to real A grade, we had been stripping back to acoustic and the roots part, which is what we are all about, but next year you will see all of it, the real show with the lights, sound and full rock and roll production and amongst that you will see the stripped back version that we are known for.”

Busby said the band usually don’t get the chance to explore each place when on a busy tour, but with the Back to Base fesiival their only gig booked in for Sunraysia at this point in time, he is looking forward to checking out Mildura and the surrounding areas.

“I am just so excited for our debut in Mildura, bring it on,” Busby said.
