Local talent set to be Uncaged

DESCRIBING their sound as a mix of modern, hard and indie rock, Swan’s Hill Lachie Dunn and his band, Among The Restless, are moving their way up in the Australian music scene.

Growing up on a farm in Swan Hill, Mr Dunn was very passionate about music from a young age.

“I was always really heavily involved with music since I was little, I was gigging since I was 11 or 12, and really loved promoting all that stuff when I was back home,” Mr Dunn said.

“I always wanted to pursue it, so I went down to Melbourne to study and that’s where it all started really.”

Regional music opportunities is something Mr Dunn feels very strongly about, hoping one day to be able to work with disadvantaged children to get them involved in music.

“I think it’s something good for the youths to do to because it gets them involved in the community, you get opportunities to play in venues, and it kept me out of trouble until I was 18,” Mr Dunn said.

“It definitely should be highlighted in the community more.”

Coming from all different corners of the country, Among the Restless is comprised of Mr Dunn on guitar and vocals, Rhett James as lead vocals, Seamus Glenn on guitar, Jaidyn Hale on drums, and Josh Marra on the bass.

While COVID lockdowns and restrictions made it hard for the band over the past two years, Mr Dunn has been able to find a silver lining.

“We learnt how to promote ourselves in different ways and all that sort of stuff,” Mr Dunn said.

“It wasn’t always easy but we definitely learnt some stuff, and I think we’ve come out pretty good on the other side of it. It’s not all doom and gloom all the time.”

All of that paid off, with the band just being shortlisted out of over 100 bands to play at the Uncaged Festival in Melbourne alongside some well-known artists such as Wolfmother and You Am I.

“To get shortlisted into the top seven was massive. I was stoked, real stoked,” Mr Dunn said.

However, to get the chance to get on the stage at the festival, they need votes from the public.

“We’ve got a good community behind us everywhere, and I’m sure the Swan Hill locals would love to see some past residents doing something half big,” Mr Dunn said.

Voting closes March 2.
