LOCALS and tourists alike flocked to the Pioneer Settlement for the long-awaited return of the Swan Hill Region Food and Wine Festival at the weekend.
Swan Hill Inc.’s Kaylee Whitfield said the festival was a “great success” and the team of mainly volunteers had just over 1100 presale tickets purchased prior to the events, and at least 2000 people in attendance.
“We’ve received amazing feedback from not just vendors but also attendees,” she said.
“I think Swan Hill is keen to be open and ready to get out and be more active.
“It was terrific to see locals supporting the town.”
Vendors included notable local brands such as Chasney Estate, Andrew Peace Wines and Fossey’s Distillery in perfect autumn weather.
The weekend included the Twilight Cruise on the PS Pyap, the festival on Saturday with plenty of wine and local produce tastings, the grape stomp and fantastic music from Thirsty Merc, who got the crowd dancing. On Sunday, the festivities finished off with a produce and design market with attendees making the most of Australia’s food bowl right here in the Mallee.
Entry fees and donations are yet to be calculated but will contribute to another terrific festival next year.
