The Rubens set to rock Swan Hill

HOTTEST 100 winning band The Rubens are excited to play at Swan Hill Town Hall Friday niight, as they continue on their Waste A Day Australian Tour.

The show will continue a busy few weeks for live music in Swan Hill, as Thirsty Merc, The Chats and Teenage Joans have all hit stages in the city recently.

Waste A Day is the latest single from The Rubens, and follows up on their very successful fourth album 0202 that was released at the start of last year.

Despite never being to Swan Hill before, frontman Sam Margin said the band was excited to hit the stage and getting to areas that usually miss out on seeing bands like The Rubens.

“On this regional tour about 90 per cent of the places we are going we haven’t been to before,” he said.

“We love seeing new places and the drives in between.”

“We just love getting rural in NSW and Victoria, it is loads of fun and it is our favourite type of touring now.”

Since releasing their debut self titled album in 2012, The Rubens have become one of the most well known bands in Australia and have won a plethora of awards, as well as inclusion in Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2015 with their song Hoops.

Margin explained that the band started to tour regionally three years ago, and after having great success are now doing it on a more regular basis.

“There are loads of places in Australia where people want to see live music and I think a lot of them are left out,” he said.

“Playing in those places like Sydney and Melbourne is really fun, but we have played in those venues a million times.

“This allows us to be on the road more and doing what we love.”

Covid has had a massive impact on live music, and Margin said he was glad to be back on the road after such a long time not being able to hit the stage and not being able to play in front of their fans.

“It’s our social life on top of the fact that we love to play for fans and play music live,” he said.

“Our crew and band we are all best mates and we haven’t seen much of each other and now that we are back on the road it just feels good.

“Our album came out at the start of last year, and we didn’t get the chance to fully tour it and see people’s reactions to songs live.”

The band is being supported by up and coming artists Ashwarya and Stevan and can expect a set full of energy and the songs they love from The Rubens.

“Our show is pretty polished now and we have got four albums to draw from when it comes to putting together a set,” Margin said.

“We want to make sure that we’ve got a set where every song is landing and play all the songs that people want to hear.”
