Downton is back

FROM award-winning creator Julian Fellowes comes the motion picture event Downton Abbey: A New Era, with audiences returning to the iconic Highclere Castle and the south of France.

The much-anticipated cinematic return of the global phenomenon reunites the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.

The film opens in 1928 as the family and household servants of Downton Abbey are in attendance at the wedding of fan-favourite Tom Branson to Miss Lucy Smith, daughter of Lady Bagshaw.

Since the decline in her health, the indomitable Dowager, played by Dame Maggie Smith, has moved back to Downton to be closer to the family and when the matriarch’s lawyer comes to visit it becomes clear that Violet has inherited a villa in France, mysteriously left to her by the late Marquis de Montmirail.

Meanwhile, Lord Grantham receives an interesting phone call.

Mr Barber, a film director from the British Lion film company, wants to set his latest silent film, The Gambler at Downton Abbey.

Robert thinks it’s a grotesque idea, but with an exuberant offer on the table and a quick tour of the attics and roof with Lady Mary, he reluctantly concedes that Mary is in charge and should do what she thinks best.

Below stairs, the news of the movies coming to Downton has caused quite a stir.

Daisy and Anna are overcome with excitement at the prospect of seeing their matinee idols in person while Mrs Hughes must find a way of breaking the news to Mr Carson.

The family set sail for France to meet the Montmirails while Mary remains in charge of the film crew.

Downton Abbey: A New Era will make for a terrific escape from the Autumn weather, packed full of joyous moments, lots of fun and humour, tears of joy and sadness and new beginnings.

Now showing at Swan Hill Showbiz Cinemas.
