BOOK lovers are in for a real treat this month with two published authors making their way to Swan Hill and Robinvale.
JS (Jan) Davidson, author of Tethered, the second instalment of her heart-stopping Aztec saga and sequel to Hunted, will give an insightful talk at both Swan Hill Regional Library and Robinvale Learning and Community Hub.
Jan, a mother-of-two, likes to write fantasy and romantic-drama novels from the comfort of her bed.
Jan initially thought she wanted to be an actress as she was
always visualising different characters in her head, but it wasn’t until her late teens she realised in fact she wanted to be a writer.
Next up, Tony Hughes, author of A Remarkable Voyage, will speak about his great-grandfather Abe, and how he came to accept the command of the hapless paddle steamer PS Jane Eliza at the Swan Hill Regional Library.
When Abe, a mariner, fresh from the stormy seas surrounding his birthplace of Cornwall, England, jumped ship at Sandridge (Port Melbourne) to join the Victorian gold rush, he had no idea what fate had in mind for him. Not cut out for mining, he soon found his way back to water.
This time, to the great transport highways of inland Australia: a vast network of rivers forming part of the Murray Darling Basin system.
Libraries manager Camille Cullinan said she was excited to be welcoming two wonderful
authors to the region.
“Author talks are always very popular events, very well
received by our community,” she said.
“It is just wonderful to be welcoming back these events and I hope that all the book lovers can get along to one or more of these talks.”
