Beats at the Bend a night of music and more

BRINGING back the community spirit for a fun, family friendly, music-filled evening is what Beats at the Bend is all about.

One of the organisers of the Boundary Bend event, Lisa Westmore said a similar event the town held three years ago prompted them to consider holding another.

“It was a hit and it was such a good way to get the community out and about, putting Boundary Bend back on the map,” Ms Westmore said.

“This is our inaugural Beats at the Bend and if this kicks off, we are hoping to make it an annual event.

“Everything starts small so we are hoping to grow bigger and better each year.”

Organised by the Boundary Bend Progress Association, the night was set to be an evening full of music, with food and drinks available to purchase.

With wet weather playing on a lot of people’s minds, Ms Westmore said the committee had a wet weather plan in place, meaning the event will go ahead rain, hail or shine.

There was also free camping available onsite.

“It is just a great way to get the community out – we’ve all been locked away for so long, so it will be good to get out, catch up with friends, listen to some great music and have a beer,” Ms Westmore said.

“Bring your chairs, bring your picnic rugs, bring your family or your best mate. It’ll be approximately five hours of live entertainment and supporting a small community.

“All money raised goes back into the community to improve Boundary Bend and make it a place for all to enjoy.”

Ms Westmore thanked all of the sponsors who got on board to make the event happen.

One of the performers on the night will be award winning country music artists Paul Costa, who comes from Robinvale.

Costa said he was thrilled to be asked to be part of the inaugural event.

“Given that it is the first one [Beats at the Bend] they are having and that the Boundary Bend Progress Association want it to be an ongoing event, I think it is fantastic that they have put in so much effort,” he said.

Local talent Thea McLoughlan will also be performing on the night, while Costa will be joined on stage by five-time Golden Guitar winning Australian singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence.

“We’ve done hundreds of shows together over the years, so it will be great to perform with Amber again, she puts on a great show,” Costa said.

Lawrence will not only be performing her normal set, but will also be performing a children’s show at 5pm.

“I know my kids are really keen to get out there and boogie,” Costa said.

Beats at the Bend is set to be held on Saturday, October 29 at the Boundary Bend Memorial Park. Gates open from 4pm, with music starting from 5pm. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketbo.com.au/beatsatthebend, Swan Hill Information Centre and will also available at the gate.
