Big year for the arts

THE Swan Hill region is set for a spectacularly busy year for the arts, with the 2023 season kicking off on Tuesday night at Swan Hill Town Hall.

Audiences gathered at the regional season launch to hear about what is coming up in the first half of this year, as well as getting a peek at some of the acts that are scheduled.

The evening started at 6.30pm with a smoking ceremony held in front of the town hall, before attendees all settled inside for a Welcome to Country by Aunty Vicki Clark.

The first performance of the night was an acapella song performed by critically acclaimed duo Vika and Linda Bull. The pair also gave a bit of a preview of what audiences can expect when they return to Swan Hill in March.

“It’s full on,” Vika Bull said.

“I’m going to say its good fun, it’s loud, it’s raucous, and we just have a ball.”

Award-winning Robinvale artist Paul Costa performed songs in between a couple of sizzle reels showing audiences what is coming up this year, as well as some highlights from last year such as the Go North Arts Festival.

Performing arts and Swan Hill Town Hall venue manager Simon Myers spoke about the upcoming shows and the new-look town hall website, as well as the relaunch of the cafe-bar area.

The launch ended with a performance by the Victorian State Ballet, who performed a small part of Snow Queen, which will go on stage at the town hall in June.

Online tickets are available at swanhilltownhall.com, the town hall bookings office and Swan Hill Region Information Centre.
