Composer returns to Swan Hill

COMPOSER, conductor, festival director and internationally renowned pianist Stefan Cassomenos will be performing at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery next week.

Cassomenos began writing music at age seven and had his music performed by major Australian symphony orchestras as a teenager.

He has gone on to perform in countless competitions, and has been the grand finalist and prize winner of various competitions.

This included the 2012 Rhodes International Piano Competition, the 2013 Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, the 2013 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer Awards, the 2009 Melbourne Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition and the 2009 Trieste International Chamber Music Competition.

He performs regularly as a member of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Series and has founded several successive chamber ensembles.

The art gallery was thrilled to welcome Cassomenos back to Swan Hill to perform Alkan’s Symphony for solo piano, alongside Liszt’s awe-inspiring transcription of Beethoven’s uplifting and iconic ode to joy, the Ninth Symphony.

The performance next Friday starts at 7.30pm.

Audience members will sit within the remarkable exhibition Tales from the Greek by Marco Luccio and Our Mallee… Our Home by Paula Starrs.

The following weekend Melbourne-based sculptor and printmaker Luccio, a passionate fan of drawing, will hold a special workshop among his artworks.

Luccio will guide all skill levels through a fascinating and rewarding day learning about shading, composition and many other observational skills.
