Local artist Julie Chislett-Duffus to exhibit at Balranald Art Gallery

THE Balranald Art Gallery will open a new and exciting exhibition from local artist Julie Chislett-Duffus this Friday, which will run until late April.

Ms Chislett-Duffus is a well-known and popular artist from Swan Hill who has been painting for many years and has had exhibitions showcased at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery.

Exhibition organiser Jan Lawler says the BAG is excited to showcase Chislett-Duffus’s work.

“We’ve been doing this for a long time, so we’re as excited as we can get after 40 years,” she said.

“But we’re always keen to showcase artists’ work because there’s not a lot of places that people can get their pieces out into the public arena.”

The exhibition will be opening at 3pm on Friday with free entry and light refreshments available.

All works are for sale.

Chislett-Duffus will be one of a dozen feature artists exhibiting their work at the BAG throughout the year.

Other artists include Mildura’s Mary Briggs, Val Stamation, Sharon Pate, Fiona Merlin and Marian Caccianiga.

Also on show will be Bendigo artist Therese Siesma, who won the Pyramid Art Show Landscape Award last weekend and Ben Winspear from Melbourne.

Winspear will be conducting another popular plein air workshop in September.

In other news at the Gallery, the committee is presently working to enhance their community engagement, said Ms Lawler.

“We’ve got a new creative learning centre at the side of the building for classes, and we want to purchase a kiln so we can offer pottery and ceramic classes to the community,” she said.

“Unfortunately, they’re quite expensive, but we’re working towards it through, hopefully, receiving some government grants.”
