KERANG is set for an afternoon of comical and musical gems on Sunday, with Greg Champion to perform at the KBar for A Sunday Arvo with Champs.
Best known for being a part of the Coodabeen Champions, who have been a part of sports-radio culture since the early 1980s, Champion is set to perform some of his greatest hits, including I Made a Hundred in the Backyard at Mum’s and That’s the Thing About Football.
Kerang Rotary Club member and event co-ordinator Ron Kelly said getting Champion to perform in Kerang was a “bit of a fall-in-your-lap situation” after reaching out to the performer through the Coodabeen Champions Facebook page.
“He messaged me and said that even though the team wouldn’t be able to come up to Kerang, he would be available to do it if we wanted him, so we commenced the whole business from there,” Mr Kelly told the The Guardian.
“He is a very funny man and a very accomplished singer, and the afternoon should be a lot of fun.”
The performance will also raise money for the Safe Shelter from Domestic Violence Program, which is backed by local Rotary clubs to create a spaces for domestic violence victims to be able to stay in their own towns.
“I really hope that the Kerang people and members of the wider community can support it, because it is a great coup to get somebody like him to come to Kerang, and it is also supporting a really good cause,” Mr Kelly said.
A Sunday Arvo with Champs will be held on Sunday from 2pm at the KBar Function Room. Tickets for adults are $25, while kids under 16 are $10. Attendees can bring their own nibbles, while drinks will be available at bar prices.
