Comedy cast ready to sing

EXCITEMENT and nerves are building at the Swan Hill Theatre Group ahead of opening night for its production of The Wedding Singer tonight.

Based on the Hollywood movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, the show is a hilarious musical comedy set in the 1980s, guaranteed to bring a smile to audience faces.

Running through their last dress rehearsal on Tuesday night, director Emily Smith told The Guardian everything was coming together smoothly.

“There are always little backstage things that we have to kind of work out – our set changes are too slow or fixing costumes – but it’s nothing we haven’t dealt with before and we can’t overcome,” she said.

This production was nearly four months in the making and included about 15 cast members, five band members, four backstage crew members plus the lighting and sound crew.

“I’m not nervous because I don’t have to be on stage and I have full faith that everyone will do a great job,” Ms Smith said.

“But I think there are some nerves amongst the cast, there always is.”

There will be 12 shows, opening tonight and running until June 24.

“We would love to see all the seats full,” Ms Smith said.

“Tickets are selling fast, so make sure to get yours quick.”

Tickets are on sale at trybooking.com. For more information about the show, visit the Swan Hill Theatre Group Facebook page.
