A LARGE crowd gathered at the Swan Hill Art Gallery last Friday evening for the opening of its latest exhibition, Milloo Dreaming.
Officially opened by gallery director Ian Tully and co-curator Uncle Ricky Kirby, the Milloo Dreaming exhibition highlights the multifaceted talents of local Indigenous artists.
The display includes traditional weaving, drawings, painting, sculptures, ceramics, historical artefacts and photography.
The theme of the exhibition centres on the recent floods, with the First Nations artists responding to the event through traditional artwork.
The opening was made extra special with a performance from the Wiran Dance Group, who performed a traditional dance for the crowd.
Mr Kirby said before the opening that it was great to finally see all the pieces in the collection come together.
“I get excited when I see really good, young artists and their artwork, and knowing that the next generation is in good hands and it continues on,” he said.
“If the average person off the street comes down to the gallery and finds a piece of artwork and reads the name on it, I guarantee you they will say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know they were an artist’ – it’ll surprise them.”
The Milloo Dreaming exhibition will run at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery until July 30.
