Jazz twist at high tea

SENIORS Week was in full swing as the Shuffle Club Band took a step back in time to entertain guests at Swan Hill Town Hall.

The dynamic four-piece band featuring Ashley Gaudion saxophone/vocals, Dannie Bourne piano/vocals, Paul Griska double bass/vocals and Rod Gilbert drums/vocals have toured internationally across Europe, Asia and Central America, as well as performing regularly in festivals and clubs all over Australia.

Wednesday’s Jazz High Tea featured a blend of jazz, swing, blues, boogie and infectious energy, combined with a delicious menu.

Favourites from the greats like Frank Sinatra filled the auditorium as the audience joined in with the interactive program.

The Town Hall was built in the era of jazz and swing and the atmosphere was reminiscent of a jazz club, minus the smoke.

Group drummer and vocalist, Rod Gilbert, said that there was a really good vibe.

“The building was built for that sound in that era, it’s like it was made for it, really,” Mr Gilbert said.

“It felt like we were back there for a while.

“I didn’t want to get off stage I just wanted to keep playing, it’s really a great warm feeling on stage.

“The sound was incredible and you can hear everything beautifully when you are up on stage.”
