Actress digs deep

AN acclaimed actress’s journey to becoming a committed advocate for sustainable farming is the subject of a documentary screening as part of the Swan Hill Film Festival.

Rachel’s Farm focuses on how actress, director and producer Rachel Ward has changed the way she views her farm’s impact on the environment.

It features intimate interviews with Ward, her family and the people she has been inspired by on her transition from the world of entertainment to the world of farming.

It gives a unique insight into her voyage from wilful ignorance about the ecological impacts of conventional agriculture to embracing a movement to restore the health of Australia’s farmland, food and climate.

The film festival is the fifth one held by the Fight Cancer Foundation’s Swan Hill branch, in conjunction with Showbiz cinemas.

Active for 30 years, the group has raised more than $100,000 through various activities.

Group Secretary, Lois Carnie, said that the group preferred activities that were social and fun for the group and the people that support them.

“The committee thought this would resonate with a lot of farmers in this area as well as sustainable living in the Mallee and other farming groups,” Ms Carnie said.

The documentary screens on Saturday October 28 at 4pm at Showbiz Cinemas Swan Hill.
