Tribute show walks the line

JUST like their musical heroes, Mark and Joanne Caligiuri love to walk the line.

The husband and wife team brought their Get Rhythm – Johnny Cash and June Carter Show to the Swan Hill Town Hall last Friday.

They have many parallels to legendary country musical duo.

In addition to the couple being married, their crew and band members are primarily family, as was the case with Johnny Cash and June Carter.

Mark Caligiuri said that family was important to Johnny Cash and we feel the same way with many of his family members involved in his shows.

“My son and my cousin are both with us,” he said.

Joanne Caliguri said that she was no stranger to Swan Hill, performing here in the past and also visiting the town regularly in her childhood.

“Everyone is always very friendly here, we love it here,” she said.

“Even when we walk down the street, people remember us from last year and come up to us and tell us how much they enjoy the show.

“The theatre here is so beautiful, an incredible venue.”

Joanne has always been a fan of Johnny Cash and his music and when she saw the biopic about his life, Walk The Line, she insisted that husband Mark watch it and the rock’n’roll devotee became an instant fan.

After the movie, Joanne suggested that they create a Johnny Cash and June Carter show.

“Mark then listened to all my CDs and said ‘I love Johnny Cash’ so he got into it pretty much straight away,” Joanne said.
