Summer arts market returns

THE Summer Twilight Arts Market returns to Swan Hill Town Hall in February with art workshops, live music and excited discussion about all things art.

There will be live entertainment throughout the day with acts such as Grim Faulkner returning bringing his unique roots style of music.

Curator Nina McNamara said that with 25 stall holders, the market has attracted more than 1500 people through the doors on the previous two occasions the event has been held.

“Anyone that is a creative that is looking for an outlet to take that next step of courage, to take the next step is encouraged to apply for a stall,” Ms McNamara said.

“It is a really great opportunity to network, even if you’re not ready to sell your work yet, you can meet likeminded creatives.

“Enjoy some great food and great live music.”

Local cupcake creator, Emily Violi, said that the first time she came to the inaugural market she didn’t know what to expect and bought 180 cupcakes to sell, and these were sold in just 45 minutes.

“The curator said that they were expecting about 500 people through the doors and there were over 1500.

“For the next market, I was more prepared and this time made 430 cupcakes and after the four hours of the market being open I was left with only four at the end of the day,” Ms Violi said.

“I am coming back for my third time to sell and showcase my cupcakes.”

Well known musician Grim Fawkner is no stranger to Swan Hill, having performed here a number of times.

“My music is best described as country, folk and pop.” Fawkner said.

Indigenous artist Kenita-Lee McCartney will once again be at next year’s market selling a range of products that are practical as well as decorative with her artwork featured.

Last year Ms McCartney had her work on offer and also ran weaving workshops.

Applications are now open if you would like to be considered to have a market stall.

Contact artsmarket.sh@gmail.com before applications close on December 20 and the curator will get back to you.The markets are on Saturday, February 24 from 4pm-7pm at the Swan Hill Town Hall.
