Kids love jurassic lark

Dinosaurs have been spotted around Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement, but it’s an out-of-control genetic experiment, they are a part of the school holiday program.

The life-like depictions of the velociraptor, a monolophosaurus, a dilophosaurus, a baby triceratops and a baby stegosaurus have travelled to the Mallee from Melbourne to delight kids and adults alike as they stand sentinel the rose garden.

Pioneer Village general manager, Jessica Warburton, said the Dino Park was a great interactive addition that families love and it especially appeals to those with younger kids.

“It’s really great to have something different on site for regular visitors,” Ms Warburton said.

“We are very impressed with how good they look, we have had them once before and they were incredibly popular and lots of people asked if we were getting them back, so we thought this school holidays would be the perfect time for that.

“The village has been very busy for school holidays, it’s always a great time of year to be at the village when it is full of families and people around.”

The popular activities of butter churning, rope making, print shop and pioneer school join the blacksmith, music shop and general store as great ways to give visitors an insight into the lives of the area’s pioneers.

Summer time also brings sunset river cruises on the Pyap with live music each Friday evening.

The laser light spectaculars held each have been a particular success according to Ms Warburton.

“The feedback on our new show Legends of the Mallee has been amazing and we have a lot of people doing both shows, as you do get the second show half price when you do both shows and this is proving very popular,” she said.

“We have had lots of nights where we run two shows because the first show has sold out.

“Each show seats 110 people so it is always a good sign when we have multiple shows run on one night.”

The Howman family visiting Mildura from Portland made the trip across to Swan Hill to visit the Pioneer Village and attend the laser light show.
