Back and bringing the band

A UNIQUE style of Australian swamp blues, swamp rock, alternative country and slide guitar will return to Swan Hill when 8 Ball Aitken performs next month.

Aitken will light up the Swan Hill Town Hall stage on February 4, having visited town for the first time in November at the Swan Hill Club Beer Garden Blues Festival.

He said he had a great time and met some lovely folks.

“I also ran a slide guitar workshop at the time, there are some really keen guitar players and very good guitar players in the town,” Aitken said.

“My show is all original music and people like to see a show that has original songs.

“It is a really fun show, I’m bringing the band and my brother is coming along.

“It’s the sort of show that gets people up and dancing with a few good laughs along the way.”

The Queensland-born musician has a large following both in Australia and the US.

He spent nine years living in Nashville, Tennessee and Austin, Texas so that he could learn to play music by working with American musicians.

Aitken has been touring for 20 years, and in that time has played in 20 countries and made 15 albums.

He officially changed his name to 8 Ball about seven years ago, although he has held that moniker as a nickname for more than 20 years.

“It helps you stand out in the music industry a bit, along with my red hair to shake around,” he said.
