Next weekend will be packed with school holiday entertainment as the Swan Hill Town Hall hosts two very different and highly interactive shows.
Snowy and the Seven Cool Dudes, which has positive messages about keeping fit, healthy eating and the importance of being kind, is at 2pm on Saturday April 6.
It is a modern take on the traditional fairytale with children able to take part in the show, which was an Adelaide Fringe Festival award winner in 2023.
Creator Alli Pope said that she originated the show more than 10 years ago with an educational message that doesn’t feel like a lesson.
“It is written to appeal to adults as well with some little jokes that might go over the kids’ heads,” Ms Pope said.
“The show is very immersive and the kids can expect a lot of dancing as it is real interactive theatre.
“We get the kids involved, although the show is called Snowy and the Seven Cool Dudes there is actually only one cool dude on stage and we pick six others out of the audience, they get to come up and be little rappers.
“It is a very loud and full-on show that is always really well received because there are great messages, lots of energy, fun and good music.”
In support of the healthy eating message, Swan Hill Town Hall will transform Mulley’s Place in the foyer into a healthy eating hub with fruit and other nutritious snacks and drinks for sale.
During the pandemic lockdowns, the show was turned into an illustrated children’s book which will be available for sale after the 50 minute show,
the characters.
The second show, on Sunday, is the internationally acclaimed and award-winning circus-themed Children Are Stinky.
Described as a spectacular reverse psychology experiment where performers attempt to prove children are stinky, it has messy, ridiculous and hysterical twists, but all they succeed in doing is proving that children are, in fact, awesome.
The show is set in the 1990s, with plenty of in-jokes and a cleverly choreographed nostalgic musical mash-up to hook the adults in for a rollicking trip down memory lane.
There is innovative stagecraft combined with mischievous fun, featuring acrobatics and entertaining circus mixed with a fun, accessible narrative.
Performing Arts and Venues Manager at Swan Hill Rural City Council, Simon Myers, said the council was very pleased to be able to program quality, interactive children’s entertainment with a message.
