Creedence packs the house

THURSDAY night is not usually a big night for entertainment but that didn’t stop a huge crowd turning out – with Swan Hill Town Hall almost to capacity – to attend the performance of Creedence Clearwater Collective.

The tribute band played two hours of hits from the band formed in the 1960s and first known as the Golliwogs, which once rivalled the Beatles as the world’s top band, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR).

The group considers itself a tribute act, not an impersonator group, as the members don’t try to be Creedence by dressing up and putting on wigs or fake accents.

Band frontman Tim Carter said that on the group’s first visit to Swan Hill the crowd was fantastic and the venue really lived up to its stellar reputation.

“They we really rockin’ – they went off and they had a great time,” Carter said.

“I love it when a crowd is like that.

“It was such a great turnout for a Thursday night.

“It was such a happy crowd.

“I can’t wait to come back.”

There was a lot of audience participation with the band encouraging the crowd to howl at the moon every time it appeared on the onstage projection.

Dancing and singing featured throughout the night as band members left the stage and joined with the ecstatic revelers in the audience.

A battle of the guitar and saxophone had the audience fully engaged, cheering for their favorite.

Carter added that the group was what could best be described as “holding a Creedence party”.

“It’s such a ball, when you play Creedence,” Carter said.

“It’s something you grew up on.”

“You just know it, we don’t actually rehearse at all we just turn up and have fun.”
