Dancing for a heartfelt cause

STUDENTS from Richardson Dance Studio are sharing with the rest of Swan Hill a part of their award-winning performances from the recent Follow Your Dreams dance competition in Echuca, all in aid of a charity that is close to the collective heart of the dance school, Dancing For Sick Kids.

The charity – which is a part of the Ronald McDonald House group of charities – will receive all proceeds of the one-hour showcase to be held at Harrison Hall, Swan Hill College, on Friday May 10 at 7pm.

Richardson Dance Studio co-owner Katie Blackmore said the importance of the charity was reinforced when a member of the dance studio family was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently died, she and her family having been recipients of the services of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“We do the showcase in memory of Taylor, who we lost a few years ago, and her family which is highly connected with our dance studio and spent a lot of time at Ronald McDonald House, including Taylor’s sister Payton who is one of our senior dances who will be performing in the showcase,” Ms Blackmore said.

“Being able to raise money for this charity that is particularly close to our hearts is amazing.

“It is also an opportunity for the community to come together and not only see a fantastic show with all our award-winning routines but also raise money for a worthwhile charity.

“The comp team kids are our most dedicated students – they live and breathe dance and they are dancing multiple hours a week.

“They are really committed to their craft”.

Some of the awards achieved at the recent competition were two creative choreography awards.

The 16 dancers at the showcase range in age from seven to 18 years of age.

Tickets are available from https://www.trybooking.com/CQLRE .
