Legends share the stage

TWO legends of Australian music, Wendy Matthews and Grace Knight, last week lent their powerhouse voices to a unique performance showcasing the works of Paul Simon at Swan Hill Town Hall.

The duo, friends for many years, have been crossing paths since the 1980s and talking about a collaboration for nearly as long.

Knight, who performs with Eurogliders and has seven solo albums, said that for many years she and Matthews would meet up backstage at shows and talk about performing together.

“Years and years went past, and we kept saying the same thing and then laughing about it, then just before the pandemic I said we have to park this parrot otherwise it will be too late so let’s just do it,” Knight said.

“We decided that we both loved the stories in Paul Simon’s songs and that it was also incredible music.”

Both are multi-award winners with gold and platinum albums to their credit and extensive individual catalogues of hits that both still perform, but they wanted to do something different and that is when they hit on the idea of using songs from Simon’s catalogue.

Their audience was not disappointed, entertained with not only the musical talents on display but also the funny anecdotes the singers shared.

Support act Taylor Sheridan, hailing from Kyneton, is no stranger to regional Victoria and was just as well received as Matthews and Knight, performing mostly original compositions from his soon-to-be-released album.
