BEV Killick can turn almost anything into a punchline.
Killick been a comedian for more than 25 years and has an impressive resume of stage performances, television and movie roles.
She will bring her latest show Big Laughs with Bev! to Swan Hill Town Hall on Friday, June 14.
She didn’t start as a comedian but says she was always the class clown and her long resume includes clown training.
Working in hospitality and attending events she was one day taken aback by a standup comedian and thought she had to find out more about the art form.
She started going to the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda on Sundays, watching and learning, without even realising she was going to progress to standup.
After a particularly bad shift at work, she walked out and signed up to do some comedy spots the very same day.
Her friendly face and nature stood her in good stead with her audiences.
The show also has her singing, doing impressions and playing lots of characters, keeping the audience intrigued. There might even be clown influences that come out in the show.
Killick says although she is edgy, she is not a dark comedian, aiming to keep the show light and fun.
“I’m not a butter-wouldn’t-melt-in-my-mouth kind of comedian, I am pretty naughty.
“I have always been the family clown and the class clown, always being able to find the joke in something.
“I have never been able to put a finger on how or why and I don’t think I really want to. If I evaluate it too much or psychoanalyse it might not happen again.
“When I’m acting and I really get into a character I really don’t fully understand how I can do it, so I try not to question that either.”
She will be supported by her great friend Marcus Ryan who is one of the world’s most well-travelled comedians.
Having visited more than 120 countries he draws on these experiences and brings those into his act.
Killick says Swan Hill has a lovely country feel, and she loves the nature.
“The birds are singing, and the grass is green, I love all that,” she said.
“I really love the Pioneer Settlement. Our car broke down one time coming back from a festival and we spent a week at a holiday park right near the pioneer village and we went there every day.”
