Night of lights

TONIGHT is the much-awaited opening of the River Lights, which is returning for its second year.

Swan Hill Mayor Stuart King said the event was very popular last year, so it was exciting to do it again, this time at the Pioneer Settlement.

“It’s exciting to do it in the Pioneer Settlement, where you have the old and the modern coming together,” Cr King said.

“I haven’t heard any negative feedback from last year. All the feedback has been positive.

“I’m excited to see what has been done to make it come to life. I’m really looking forward to seeing it.”

The show will feature light sculptures, laser effects, interactive projections and holograms in a showcase of history, art, community icons and First Nations culture.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said the event was set to attract thousands of people, boost business, and showcase Swan Hill and the Murray region as a visitor destination for people across Victoria and interstate.

“We are proud to support events like River Lights because they encourage people to visit regional destinations to enjoy the wide range of experiences on offer, which supports local businesses and jobs,” Mr Dimopoulos said.

It is expected that over the 10 days of the show more than 8000 people will attend.
