Tapping the swing greats

THE Tap Pack will be tapping their way to the Swan Hill Town Hall this Wednesday.

As they get ready to show energetic performances that mix the “old-school cool” of classic swing music with modern pop and witty banter, creative director and cast member of The Tap Pack, Jordan Pollard said the show would have something for everyone.

“You can bring anyone from ages of eight to 80-plus,” Mr Pollard said.

“There’s the classic swing songs from Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr, but there will also be songs from Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and other modern artists so there will be a bit of everything for everyone.”

The all-Aussie and independent show features a talented and experienced cast who have been touring the world for the past 10 years.

Pollard said he and the other creators of the show were inspired by the famous collective of singers that made up the Rat Pack.

“We’re all tap dancers, we love Gene Kelly and all the other tap-dancing greats,” he said.

“And we also really enjoy the swing music of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin.

“So we were all sitting in a pub 10 years ago and we wrote some ideas down on a napkin of what the show could be, which is a fresh, new spin of swing music and tap dancing.

“We were really excited and before we knew it, we basically created a show out of nothing.”

Pollard said the show has had a revolving cast of performers, which had allowed it to constantly evolve over the past 10 years.

“We embrace what each individual brings to the show, and it also allows us to be spontaneous and different every night,” he said.

“No two shows are the same. The show is constantly evolving and we never get bored with it.”

Pollard said he hoped audiences would enjoy the show and have a fun night.

“We just want to have a great time with the audience,” he said.

“Regional places like Swan Hill are fantastic. They always appreciate the show because they don’t always have a lot of people coming through.”

The Tap Pack will perform at the town hall on Wednesday, September 4, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are still available at swanhilltownhall.com/events/the-tap-pack.
