ACCOMPLISHED Darwin-based country singer-songwriter Sara Storer is returning to her Mallee roots next weekend.
The 21-times Golden Guitar winning artist will be visiting the region for Robinvale’s centenary celebrations before playing a gig at the Mystic Park Hotel on Sunday, October 27.
Ms Storer said it will be her first time visiting Mystic Park.
“I love a hotel gig and I love a Sunday session,” she said.
“We just want people to enjoy the afternoon and take time out of their crazy world.
“I think smaller towns can often miss out on live shows because artists always have to go to the bigger cities.”
Growing up in the locality of Wemen near Robinvale on her family’s farm, Ms Storer’s music often touches on small town life.
Describing herself as an Australian storyteller, Ms Storer said she sings about things she loves and has a passion for.
“Things like our country, our characters, our towns and cities, or anywhere I can find a good story,” she said.
“Whether that’s my personal experiences or someone else’s I just love to get that down in song.
“So my ears and eyes are always open, waiting for the next feed of information.”
With Ms Storer’s father being an amateur musician and her mother a piano player, she said the farm was where she and her brother fell in love with music.
“Growing up there was the underlying backbone of us becoming musicians, and loving rural country life and writing songs,” she said.
“We were allowed to play music on the record player as loud as we wanted at any time of the day as long as it was a good song.
“Dad used to love listening to songs that had a good story.
“I guess in a way he was teaching us quiet lessons about music and lyrics that I didn’t know was a lesson.
“So when I first started writing a song, I knew I had to write something that was unique.”
Ms Storer will be accompanied by her brother Greg Storer who is also a singer-songwriter, as well as fiddle player Francis Evans when revisiting Robinvale – the town where she went to school – and the Mystic Park Hotel.
“It was very wonderful and kind for the town to ask us to come back and be involved in the centenary celebrations,” she said.
“We’re really looking forward to catching up with a lot of people.”
Ms Storer said she will be performing original songs, covers and her upcoming single for audiences at Robinvale and Mystic Park.
Local singer-songwriter Sophie Kelly will also be playing a set at the Mystic Park Hotel.
The Mystic Park Hotel will open its pub at 2pm on Sunday, October 27, and the music will start at 3pm.
