Film festival returns for good cause

SWAN Hill residents can make a difference by going to the movies next weekend.

Fight Cancer Foundation Swan Hill Branch will be running their annual Swan Hill Film Festival at Showbiz Cinemas.

Three films will be screened over the weekend to raise funds for Fight Cancer Foundation.

Critically acclaimed indie film, Janet Planet will be screening at 6.45pm on Friday, October 25.

Iconic Australian film, The Castle will be screening Saturday, October 26, at 2pm.

And Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation of the classic 1957 musical, West Side Story will be screening Saturday, October 26, at 6.15pm.

Secretary of the Fight Cancer Foundation Swan Hill Branch Lois Carnie said they always tried to screen films that didn’t receive a mainstream release in Swan Hill.

“We’ve got Janet Planet on Friday and if they want to see an old classic at the movies, they can go and watch The Castle for a nice and relaxing Saturday afternoon, or if they feel like watching something more theatrical and dramatic, they can see West Side Story,” she said.

“We’re hoping people can feel like there is something for everyone with the different options we have.”

“It’s an opportunity to not only support a good cause, but also to have a good night out at the movies with friends and family.”

Proceeds from the sale of the tickets will go towards maintaining the Rotary House Accommodation Centre in North Melbourne.

The centre is close to Melbourne’s major hospitals including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Royal Children’s Hospital and is mainly used to accommodate family members or guardians of cancer patients.
