Irish dancers do twist

THE modern Irish dance production Celtica will be staged at Swan Hill Town Hall this Sunday at 3pm.

Associate producer of Celtica, Georgia May, said the show is a modern twist on traditional Irish dancing.

“You’re going to see some martial arts moves, some Michael Jackson and lots more,” she said. “It’s very high energy and there’s never a lull in the show.

“Irish dancing has been around for a long time and our show has those influences as well, but we also incorporate other styles and add different flavours in our performances.”

With 17 performers on stage, some from acclaimed shows such as Celtic Illusion and Lord of the Dance, Ms May said the show is a big operation that won’t disappoint.

“I think there is really something for everyone even if you’re not the biggest fan of dance or of Irish dance,” she said.

As the lead performer and associate producer, Ms May said her job is multifaceted and keeps her on her toes – figuratively and literally.

“No two days are the same,” she said.

“I look after anything from marketing for the show, advertising, casting, social media and just I work closely with the director and the producer as well.”

On their national tour, this weekend will be Celtica’s first stop in Swan Hill.

“It can be hard being on the road,” Ms May said.

“It’s less glamorous than what people see on stage, but seeing the audience’s reactions when we perform makes it all worth it.”

Ms May said she loves the enthusiasm shown by regional audiences.

“They really get into the show and go crazy,” she said.

“It’s really important for us to bring entertainment to the regional areas.

“We just hope to bring a couple of hours of joy to people’s lives and provide a bit of a reprieve from day-to-day life.”
