RocKwiz seeking music buffs

MUSIC trivia enthusiasts could run into RocKwiz quiz master Brian Nankervis about town on Saturday as he scouts for contestants to join him and host Julia Zemiro on stage.

The team is back in town on their biggest tour yet with Never Mind the Buzzer, Here’s RocKwiz LIVE!

The unknown factor is which audience members will join the musicians as contestants, an uncertainty that keeps the show fresh for the hosts night after night on tour.

“The contestants from the audience last time we were in Swan Hill were great fun, and that’s what keeps us on our toes because we never know what they’re going to be like,” Nankervis said.

“They’re often people who aren’t familiar with sort of stagecraft, they’re bankers, doctors, nurses and teachers.”

Nankervis said he will be in the Town Hall foyer and on the streets before the show looking for any keen contestants who happen across his path.

Stopping in Swan Hill between a show at Palais Theatre down the road from their home turf at The Espy in St Kilda and their next tour stop in South Australia, the duo and their RocKwiz Orkestra were excited to take the stage at the Town Hall.

“We had Joe Camilleri from The Black Sorrows on the show recently after he played at the Town Hall and he was raving about the quality of the sound there,” Nankervis said.

“To work on a show and do it night after night is very exciting, and while the live experience is very liberating it’s challenging because you’re in a different room and you’ve got to make sure the sound is good.”

RocKwiz started airing on SBS in 2005 and quickly became a staple on the channel and for music trivia enthusiasts.

The live show will test the musical knowledge of six contestants – four handpicked from the audience.

The last tickets for Never Mind the Buzzers, Here’s RocKwizLIVE! at the Swan Hill Town Hall are available online at swanhilltownhall.com/events/rockwiz.

Theatre doors open from 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.
