SWAN Hill Rural City Council has announced the lights will again be switched on, with the popular River Lights returning later this year.
The council-run event has received funding from the Victorian Government’s Regional Event Fund.
The council said building on the “spectacular success” of previous years, this year’s event promised an even more “mesmerising experience”, transforming the beloved Pioneer Settlement into a “breathtaking” display of light and storytelling.
Mayor Stuart King expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s return, highlighting its unique blend of heritage and innovation.
“We are excited to see River Lights return, bringing with it a stunning celebration of our rich history and vibrant community spirit,” he said.
“This immersive event will once again showcase the magic of the Little Murray River, weaving light and narrative through the Pioneer Settlement to transport visitors through time.”
The night sky will come alive during the second week of the school holidays, from July 11-20, for 10 unforgettable nights of colour and creativity, offering an enchanting experience for all ages.
The council said more details, including entertainment, ticketing, and special attractions, would be unveiled in the lead-up to the event.
Speaking about the funding, Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos said the Regional Events Fund supports festivals, sporting events, and exhibitions that create local jobs, boost tourism, and showcase Victoria’s regional communities.
“The Regional Events Fund brings thousands of visitors to local communities, providing a huge boost for businesses and showcasing some of Victoria’s most incredible destinations,” he said.
“We’re ensuring communities across the state benefit from our huge pipeline of events.”
