Fashion fun at racing runway

ON the track it’s all about the bet365 Swan Hill Cup.

But right alongside the famous Swan Hill straight there is a much tougher race being run – to win the fashions on the field.

And the pressure is on from the first day of the three-day bet365 Swan Hill June Racing Carnival with the Golden Topaz in the Hub’s four categories – fashionable racegoer, millinery award, aspiring lady of the day and Golden Topaz classy lady.

On Saturday the juniors get their moment in the spotlight with the Mint Soda Miss Racegoer (to five years); home.life children’s boutique Master Racegoer and Best Headpiece (to five years); Innocence & Attitude Miss and Master Racegoers (six to 12 years) and the 218° Miss and Mister Racegoer (13-17 years).

With the grand finale – on and off the track – being bet365 Swan Hill Carnival Sunday’s showcase.

Which means the Lady of the Day (sponsored by Daniel Wellington, Aspire Jewellery, Pan Pacific Melbourne and The Bag Queen) and Gent of the Day (sponsored by Pan Pacific Melbourne and Clarks Gift Salon).

Along with the Millinery Award (sponsored by Big4 Riverside, Morgan & Taylor, The Bag Queen, Swan Hill Optical and Poppy & Lola) and the Fashionable Racegoer (sponsored by Aspire Jewellery, Zafino,

The Beauty Spot and The Little Shoe Shop).

Swan Hill Women In Racing’s Sharon Anderson-Taylor said people come from as far and as wide as the trainers and racehorses to have a shot at the fashion crowns in the carnival.

She said the fashions on the field have become a signature event at the carnival and every year pull a massive crowd.

Adding for many of the people at the track the fashions start in local shops – for those planning to have a crack on the catwalk and those just planning on being seen in the crowds.

“There is a real buzz every year, people of all ages love checking out the fashions and across the years there have been some spectacular winners in every category,” Ms Anderson-Taylor said.

“And it all builds to the bet365 Swan Hill Cup Day Sunday 8th when things suddenly get super serious because this is when the big girls and boys come out to compete – and in many cases their win is as important to the designers of their clothes and the sponsors as it is to them.

“It’s part of the bet365 Swan Hill June Racing Carnival you just can’t miss.”
