DO you want to break free, Swan Hill?
Then get ready for the world-famous Queen tribute show to rock you, Wednesday, July 9 at the Swan Hill Town Hall.
Queen: It’s a Kinda Magic has been travelling the world for years in their standout tribute show.
Personal assistant to Freddie Mercury, Peter Freestone said: “I’ve not seen another act in the world do it better.”
The show uses Queen’s 1986 Wembley show as a blueprint as the band recreates the World Tour concert.
Audience members can expect to hear songs such as, We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, Radio Ga Ga, Somebody to Love, Another one Bites the Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody and more.
Freddie Mercury is played by Cape Town’s Warren Vernon-Driscoll who has been in the role since 2018.
Vernon-Driscoll’s voice and sense of musicality has been described as “annoyingly good,” and he remains the first and only professional Freddie tribute to sing all of the songs in the original key.
The tribute has also mastered playing the piano and guitar live while singing.
“The band and I are all massive Queen fans and their music really shaped us into the musicians we are today,” Vernon-Driscoll said.
“So, when we were given the opportunity to perform the music in this show we jumped at it.”
Audience members are encouraged to look out for the attention to detail in regard to what is seen on stage.
“We’ve got the drum skins that Queen used to use, our guitarist Rusty who plays Brian May uses an exact replica of Brian May’s guitar,” he said.
“We’ve got it down to me wearing the exact boxing boots that Freddie wore.”
Vernon-Driscoll was classically trained throughout his childhood and teen years before he discovered rock at university.
“When I started to find rock, I realised it was equally as challenging to sing Freddie as the classical stuff I had grown up with,” he said.
Since then, Vernon-Driscoll has rocked the world with his voice, performing to every corner of the globe.
The show promises “the full rock concert experience” with an international band, custom lighting and costumes as well as scenes from Queen’s famous film clips and concert moments.
“We want people in the audience to get involved, make a noise,” Vernon-Driscoll said.
“We don’t want people folding their arms and watching us; this is a rock and roll gig, so we need everybody in the crowd to be a part of it.”
Tickets for the one night only show can be purchased at swanhilltownhall.com/events/queen/ and range from $47 -$75.
