Nathan Free takes VFF horticulture role

THE Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) this week announced two appointments to leading roles in the organisation.

Fourth-generation Lake Boga farmer Nathan Free will take on the role of horticulture president after six months as acting horticulture president.

Katherine Myers, a potato and sheep farmer from Ballarat, will take on the role of horticulture vice-president.

“I look forward to continuing to advocate for better seasonal workforce access, streamlining quality assurance programs, advocating for greater biosecurity funding and helping to build a Victoria that values the great work our farmers do,” Mr Free said.

Mrs Myers has been involved in farmer-led opposition to AusNet’s Western Victoria Transmission Network Project near Ballarat.

“I look forward to engaging with horticulture farmers around the state to ensure that their land and farms are protected from the kind of issues I’ve been fighting locally,” Mrs Myers said.

Mr Free had been acting horticulture president since December, when Emma Germano vacated the role to become VFF president.

He grows a mix of organic fruit, vegetable, and cereal through his business Wattle Organics and is a former Nuffield Scholar and Rabobank emerging leader.
