Wyche saleyards ‘ramp up’ their renovations

THE Wycheproof saleyard will receive a number of upgrades thanks to the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

The $142,699 project will enhance the saleyard through the construction of roofing, as well as safety upgrades to new ramps in the facility.

Buloke Shire Council Mayor Daryl Warren said the upgrades would ensure safety at the saleyards for staff and sale attendees as well as underpinning the welfare of the animals, in line with industry standards.

“The Wycheproof saleyard is regarded as the largest store sheep selling centre in regional Victoria, with a throughput of around 100,000 sheep per year,” Cr Warren said.

“The funding will ensure that the saleyards will be future-proofed and continue to grow in a safe and sustainable way.

“The Wycheproof saleyard is a key piece of our infrastructure that supports the economic backbone of our area.”

Member for Mallee Anne Webster welcomed the investment for the region.

“The Building Better Regions Fund was an initiative that was created by The Nationals for the benefit of regional Australia,” Dr Webster said.

“In the Mallee, over $37 million has been invested across 33 projects.

“These projects will provide the means to have modern and updated facilities in our region.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the government was focused on ensuring the regions remained strong.

“We are backing these projects so local people have the facilities for the future, while creating jobs to boost our economic recovery,” Mr Joyce said.
