Murray-Darling Healthy Rivers Program

TEN projects across the Mallee have received funding as part of the Murray-Darling Healthy Rivers Program.

The program is designed to fund grants for community-led, on-ground projects that can improve the health of rivers and wetlands in the Murray-Darling Basin.

“There are millions of people who live around the Murray-Darling Basin, and the Healthy Rivers Program means that local communities can protect their own stretch of river, and that’s incredibly important,” Member for Mallee Anne Webster said.

Recipients of the grant in the Mallee include K.J and J Hooper from Murrabit West, who received $99,830 to help restore water flow to Lignum Swamp South, while in Cullulleraine the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group Ltd have received $69,000 to increase environmental values of the Ranka/Railway Creek.

The projects across the Mallee will aim to treat 1,500 hectares of river land for weeds, plant 17,000 native plants, and release 200 native fish. This will involve around 400 volunteers.
