Double delight with yearly rainfall above long-term average

SWAN Hill has received almost double the amount of rainfall in the first five months of 2022 compared to the long-term average.

More than 34mm of rain fell in May to take the yearly total to more than 200mm for 2022 compared to the overall mean of just over 110mm.

The yearly tally was boosted by above average falls in January (56mm) and April (87.4mm), with just 25mm falling across February and March.

The Swan Hill Aerodrome weather station had recorded 202.4mm so far this year compared to the historical mean of 110.2mm.

Swan Hill had 28.2mm of rain in the last week of May, however the heaviest daily rainfall for the year fell overnight on April 19 with 48.2mm of rain while a further 20.4mm fell the following day.

May 2022 also had cooler days and warmer nights with a mean maximum temperature of 17.6C compared to the overall mean of 18.8C, while overnight temperatures in 2022 saw a mean of 7.8C as opposed to 6.4C historically.

Cooler temperatures can also be expected throughout June with an historic mean maximum temperature of 15.3C and a mean minimum of 4.3C, however the first month of winter is also historically one of the driest months of the calendar year with mean rainfall of 24.8mm.

June also has the lowest mean daily sunshine hours for the year at 5.5 hours and, unsurprisingly, the highest number of cloudy days at 11.7, highlighted by the approaching seven-day outlook which features a string of cloudy or partly cloudy days with temperatures ranging from 12 to 14 degrees.

June, historically, also has the highest percentage of mean relative humidity at 88 per cent.
