LIGHTNING has been attributed as the cause of a bushfire which burned through about 61 hectares of farming land near Euston on Monday evening.
NSW Rural Fire Service Superintendent Steve Walker said the bushfire ran through stubble and mallee country.
“It was reported after a series of lightning strikes going through the lower western area,” Mr Walker said.
He said four NSW RFS units and private firefighting units brought the fire under control by Tuesday morning.
“They’ve created a break … that’s left some vegetation burning in heaps. They’ll patrol over the next couple of days until that burns out.”
The bushfire came on the first total fire ban for the Mallee as temperatures hovered around 40 degrees, amid high humidity and thunderstorms which moved through the region.
