Free farm business workshop

BRIDGEWATER Recreation Reserve, at Bridgewater, will host a free two-day farm business planning workshop on July 18 and 19 designed to help primary producers withstand business shocks.

Titled ‘In Good Times and In Bad: Adaptive Skills For Your Farming Future’, it will be facilitated by Echuca-based Kate Burke, author of Crops People Money and You, The Art of Excellent Farming and Better Returns, and is aimed at grain and mixed farmers.

Ms Burke is passionate about helping farmers to be better thinkers to ensure a brighter future by supporting participants to work out what’s most important to them, better understand the elements of their business and identify opportunities for growth as well as where to mitigate risk.

On completion of the workshop each participant will receive a copy of Ms Burke’s book and will be able to review their business plans with her after the course.

A joint initiative supported by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Victorian Government’s Future Agriculture Skills Capacity Fund, it gives farm business owners an opportunity to work on their business rather than in their business.

Previous program attendees said they appreciated the time away from the business to focus on the bigger picture with their business partners and the connections they made with others in the program.

Some comments from those who attended included “We never get this chance to talk about this stuff at home” and “We are so busy with kids and farm jobs”.

Due to a cap on places, it is essential to register for the event at https://www.trybooking.com/CRWDC
