MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

THIS week we saw a return to our normal week of men’s competitions on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Thursday, February 24 we saw 79 players compete in our Stableford event, Matt Quaife (8) dominated A Grade and had the best score of the day on 44 points.

Rob James (23) from B grade had a great score of 40 points to end up on top as Phil McClure (28) was the best of C Grade on 43 points.

Saturday, February 26 was another day of Stableford and there were more great scores, A Grade was won by Spencer McKenzie (5) on 39 points.

Guest Tony Beacham (12) topped B Grade also on 39 points, William Gurnett (33) was the daily champ and top of C Grade on 43 points.

The Par event on Sunday, February 27 was filled with great scores once again, James McLean (0) from A Grade, and Jim Degregorio (31) of B Grade both having plus 5 winning their grade.

Tuesday’s Stableford Comp was another close one, a count back between Wayne Such (21) and Stephen Matthews (27) both having 41 points, however Wayne was the one to end on top.

Another solid week of golf up ahead, plenty of great weather coming we hope to see you all out there!

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES’

ONE-HUNDRED-AND-TWENTY-FOUR ladies teed off in the annual Rutherford Street Insurance Services Opening Day at Murray Downs on Wednesday.

The event was an ambrose in fours as many teams included a novice golfer, a fun concept to introduce them to this addictive pastime.

The winners of the novice section were Gaye Legudi, Jo Watts, Marilyn Dickeson and Kristy Summerhayes (novice) on a score of 58 nett.

Runners-up were Bev West, Lyn Merrett, Claris Bourne and Deb Watson (novice) on 61.

Sue Davis, Kristy Gordon, Mandy Amezdroz and Kathy Brennan were the successful golfers group on 61 followed by Janette Tucker, Glenda Coulter, Suzanne Napier and Bev Kelly on 62.

Novice golfers Lyn Heslop, Kay McAlpine and Louise Bibby all featured in the groups that won golf balls.

Suzanne Napier, Rhonda Barrow, Joan Foster and Jo Watts were nearest the pin winners.

Janette Tucker has been in the winners’ list for the past couple of Saturdays, and this week was no exception when she scored 38 points from her 23 handicap to win on a count back from Norma Everett (25).

Claris Bourne and Suzanne McLellan led the ball pool on 34 points and the NTP winners were Suzanne Napier, Suzanne McLellan, Bev West and Kate Lochery.

Murray Downs Golf Club has joined the newly created Western Riverina District Golf Association, other clubs include Barham, Deniliquin, Rich River, Hay, Finley, Berrigan, Coleambally and Jerilderie.

A committee has been formed to organise pennant and other events between these clubs.
