Murray Downs ladies play for a worthy cause

FOLLOWING the success of a recent fundraising event, a local ladies sporting group has decided to donate the proceeds towards Swan Hill Hospital’s new Cancer and Wellness Centre.

The Murray Downs Golf and Country Club’s lady golfers recently held their annual Kennedy’s Showcase Jewellers Faye Ayson Pink Day, raising money to go towards cancer research.

The event has now been running for over 10 years with the highlight of the day being everyone dressing up in pink attire as well as playing with a pink ball.

This year 88 ladies who participated in the event, with Murray Downs donating the entry fees towards the fundraising effort.

On Tuesday, ladies’s captain Mag Kiley presented a cheque to Swan Hill District Health (SHDH) director of clinical care Chloe Keogh for $1562.

The sum came from the entry fees, raffles and donations including a generous donation from the ladies’ Friday morning golfers, the Golden Girls.

“I got in contact with the ladies here and they usually guide me on what they require,” Kiley said.

“We normally like to give something that is tangible, we’ve given a computer in the past and last year we donated IV poles.”

“But this year they decided that they wanted the money to go towards the cancer wellness centre.”

Ever since the event’s inception, it has always been the goal to raise money to donate to local groups in the community in memory of loved ones and those who have been impacted by cancer.

“We wanted the money to go locally,” Kiley said.

“That’s why we picked the hospital.”

Ms Keogh was grateful for the donation from the Murray Downs Ladies Golf Group.

“It is great to see community groups like this as excited as we are about this project,” she said.

“The Swan Hill Cancer and Wellness Centre will provide a much needed purpose built space that will support the well-being of our cancer patients and their loved ones and it is heart-warming to know that we have the support of the community.”
