MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

THIS week we held a Stableford comp on Thursday as plenty of men competed across the three grades.

Dean Scott (10) had a neat 36 points to win A Grade while Darryl Domaille (25) was the top of B Grade also on 36 points.

Adam Boys (29) had the best score of the day on 37 points while this week’s Friday’s 9-Hole comp was won by David Bourne (24) on 19 points.

On Saturday, the Western Riverina District Golfers Association (WRDGA) 4BBB Stroke Championships were held at Murray Downs.

Andrew Halligan and Spencer McKenzie won the gross prize on a score of 73, while the top nett score was 63 by duo Alan Mason and Gerard Moloney.

Also congratulations to Laurie Shipsides who was lucky enough to have a hole-in-one on the 11th hole!

Sunday was the WRDGA Individual Stoke Championships as Gross Prizes were taken out by Vincent Kelly (1) 73 in A Grade and Bradley Cockfield (16) 89 in B Grade.

A Grade nett winner was Codey Elliot (11) 71 while B Grade nett winner was John Webb (17) 72.

To finish up the week on Tuesday we held a par competition as Dale Smith (12) took the win on +3 on countback to Tony Wilson (26)

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES’

COMPETITORS enjoyed an amended ambrose event after three weeks of the pressure of championships at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.

A count back was required to separate the winners as the team of Mary Johnson, Melita Sartori, Belinda Gardner and Jenice Krahnert scored 142 points to win from Shelley Wilkins, Bev Holt, Avis Shipsides and Carol Wiseman.

In third place was the team of Deryn Pinney, Kath Brennan, Jo Williams and Lois Tippett on 137 points.

Nearest the pin winners were Claris Bourne, Kathy Parkinson, Pam Austerberry, Suzanne McLellan and Paula Pickert.

Murray Downs is now a member of the WRDGA and hosted the annual district championships at the weekend as several Murray Downs ladies featured in the prize list.

Mary-Anne Davis was runner-up to Jenny Swainger from Deniliquin who scored 86 in the stroke event and Kristy Gordon and Barb Cadd were successful in the handicap section.

LAKESIDE LADIES

A SELECT few tackled the lush green fairways of Royal Lakeside under dull skies, however with no wind or rain it was perfect golf conditions.

Jean Youl (22) on 32 points won the last round of Stableford before Championships start next Wednesday, June 1.

Joan Foster (27) and 30 points has shaken off the dreaded NAGA again, and Deanne Free (32) and 29 points rounded up the ball pool.

Joan had Nearest The Pin and coffee and cake from Lake Boga Store on the 3rd and took home her own ball with the 18th NTP.

Mandy Ackland (22) took the Lake Boga Marine NTP on the 7th, and keeping it in the family, Jean was NTP on the 12th to win the Shaw Autoelectrical ball and stubby holder.
