MURRAY DOWNS MEN

Last Thursday’s comp started the week off strongly with Par of the Downs course (short tees).

Congratulations to Ray Holdsworth who had a hole in one on the 11th hole, the second hole in one at Murray Downs in just two weeks.

Laurie Shipsides (5) had a score of +4 to take out A grade.

Ron Munro’s (8) +3 the best of B grade while Gary Slater (13) had the top score of the day in C Grade on +5.

There was another good turn out for our Friday 9 hole Stableford Competition as Shane Ingram (10) pulled together the most points with 19 from just 9 holes.

Saturday’s comp scared a few with Par from the Black tees.

Regular visitor Jason Hough (9) played well to end up top of A grade on +1.

Member Ian Johansen (14) cleaned up B Grade on +2.

The best score of the day went to Campbell Kennon (23) who was able to end up with a huge score of +7.

Sunday was a fun day with a four person Ambrose.

Best score of the day was 50.37 by Lisa Jean, Tara Free, Gemma Gardner and Audrey Domaille.

The girls were 4.5 shots clear of 2nd place that went to Joel Travaglia, Gary Blencowe, Ricky Pickering and Malcolm Deveraux.

Tuesday’s comp was another Par to finish of the week.

Greg Weybury (22) was the top scorer of the day with +5.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

Paula Pickert is the June Monthly Medal winner at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

Arctic conditions greeted the 42 competitors as Paula prevailed with a score of 75 nett from her 16 handicap but only after she survived a count back from Clare Nalder-Martin (28) and Georgina Douglas (26).

Ruth McAlister (28) had the best score of the day with 72 nett to win Division 2, but her membership category precludes her from winning the medal.

The runners-up were Michelle Holt (24) 76 and Clare Nalder-Martin and Georgina headed the ball pool with Jenny Ford and Maralyn Morrison.

Maree Thurwood won the putting comp with 33 and also two nearest the pins as the other accurate shot prizes went to Michelle Holt and Lisa Brady.

Shelley Wilkins (17) and 3 up and Jill Bath (30) 4 up were the winners of the two divisions on Saturday.

The runners up were Judi Benbow (25) also 3 up and Lisa Brady (26) 2 up.

Janette Tucker, Jill Bath and Sue Davis were the nearest the pin winners.

LAKESIDE LADIES

Lovely sunshine greeted the well rugged up golfers at Royal Lakeside for Round 1 of Ladies Championships as the actual temperature was 7.3, howeve,r felt like 0.3.

Jean Youl (22) on 100, nett 78 won the day from Deanne Free (32) 112, nett 80 and Mandy Ackland (22) 108, nett 86 won the ball pool.

Tricia donated a dozen eggs for the NAGA which Teresa happily took home.

Joan Foster had a gobbler on the 2nd to par the hole, and Deanne had a gobbler on the 13th.

Nearest the pins went to Deanne on the 3rd for coffee and cake at Lake Boga Cafe, Mandy once again took the Lake Boga Marine NTP on the 7th and Jean collected the Shaw Autoelectrical ball and stubby holder on the 12th, and Joan’s ball on the 18th. The day ended with delicious lamb shank soup courtesy of Deanne, served with fresh sourdough from Jean.

Good golf to the men on Sunday for their first round of championships.
