DEANNE Free (29), with 33 points, was the clear winner at Royal Lakeside.

Sue Notting (27), with 30 points, was runner-up from Lois Heil (33), 27 points, on a countback from Jean Youl (21).

Deanne had the best second shot on the third to win the cafe voucher, and she was closest to the 18th with her drive to win Joan’s ball.

Jean won the NTP on the seventh and Ruth McAlister took home Lois’s ball for NTP on the 12th.

Lois had a gobbler on the second, and Jean had a gobbler on the 14th.

Next week is Lakeside tournament week, starting with the 30th Linen and Lace ladies’ 4BBB on Thursday. Bring your pearls to wear to afternoon tea.

Saturday is mixed day and Sunday is the men’s 27-hole competition.

Lakeside is the best condition it has been for many years, so come out and have a hit.

Lalbert

A STROKE event was held on August 6.

Charlie Kingwill won with a scratch score of 80 from Peter Harley on 89 and Lee O’Meara on 92.

The handicap winner was junior player Max Parsons with net 66 (111/45/66), from Maree Kingwill and Charlie Kingwill on net 72.

Nine-hole junior Dakota Meehan had net 36.5. No NTP.

Murray Downs Men

LAST Saturday’s competition at Murray Downs was the August monthly medal stroke round, from which John Tripodi, showed the rest of the field what he is capable of when he gets all his game going in the right direction.

Tripodi, playing off his daily handicap of 17, shot two nines of 43, for his net score of 69, to take out the coveted to medal by one shot.

He got away to a relatively slow start with a bogey on his first hole, followed up by a dreaded triple bogey on his second hole, but then knuckled down, finishing the front nine with a birdie.

His only real blemish on the back nine was a double bogey on the 14th hole, but overall, it was a solid round of golf.

The next best card, of net 70, was handed in by Mark Warren (12) to take out Division 1, from Paul Bethune (13) with 71 net. Ben Smith (17) was the best in Division 2, with net 72, just ahead of Ian Johansen (14) with 73 net.

Similar scores were the best in Division 3, with Gary Slater (25) leading the way with 72 net, from Cambell Kennon (20) at 73 net. Other players required scores of at least net 74, to be in the ball rundown.

Only two nearest the pins were claimed. Brian White took off the jackpot on the 11th hole, with a shot to within 92cm, and Ross Hastings was the closest on the 15th.

Sunday’s competition was a Stableford event, in two divisions, with some very good scores being recorded.

Ricky Wilkins (31) took out Division 2 with 42 points, just ahead of Brock Storer (25) from The Sands Golf Club, with 41 points.

The countback system came into play in Division 1, to separate Tyronne Parkinson (12) and Leigh Evans (15), when both players finished with 40 points apiece, with Parkinson coming out on top.

Scores of 34 points and better were required to get a ball. The NTPs went to Steven Emberson on the 2nd, Jason Perry on the 5th, Daniel Cruickshank on the 11th and Oliver Rohde on the 15th.

On Thursday last week the competition was against par, with Geoff Hinton (24) showing glimpses of his best form, to record four up to take out Division 2, ahead of Peter Amezdroz (36) at three up. Wayne Wisby (9) was the best in Division 1 at three up, from Ken Gregory (8) on one up.

Other players required scores of at least one down and better to be eligible for a ball.

Luke Merritt had a good shot into the fifth green, to claim that NTP and Craig Fletcher was the closest on the 11th.

Also last Sunday was the semi-final rounds of the WRDGA winter pennant, held at the Rich River Golf Club, in which Murray Downs was up against Barham in all three divisions and Rich River did likewise against Deniliquin. Murray Downs advanced to the grand finals in all divisions, which will be held at Deniliquin on coming Sunday.

In Division 1, Murray Downs defeated Barham four and one and Deniliquin defeated Rich River three and two. In Division 2 Murray Downs won 3½ to 1½ and Rich River defeated Deniliquin three and two, while in Division 3 Murray Downs and Barham squared their match 2½ each and Rich River beat Deniliquin three and two.

This all means that Murray Downs will take on Deniliquin in the Division 1 grand final and Rich River in the other two divisions.

This Saturday at Murray Downs, we will have the semi-finals of the Swan Hill Wholesalers Premier League competition.

The first match is between the top side Royal Goat Trackers and fourth-placed Mavericks and the second match is between the second-placed Royal Capri and the third-placed Wannabees. The Goats have been near the top of ladder all season, but they will all need to be at their peak in their games against the formidable Mavericks who just sneaked into the top four, after the final round.

The Goats have a very consistent team in Tony Ford, Tony Wilson, Graeme Mathiske, Geoff Frame, Paul Raundino and George Sidorow, while the Mavericks consist of Ian Ried, Craig Fletcher, James McLean, Danial Lavey, Brian White and Greg Roberts.

The Goats are predicted to get over the line by a very small margin 102 to 100. In the second final, it’s Royal Capri made up of Roger Walker, Alan Wolstencroft, Dale Rogers, Jimmy Beard, Jeff Brasser and Paul Sparkes, taking on team Wannabees of Sue Davis, Kristy Gordon, Gaye Legudi, Deb Watson, Jenny Ford, and Shiela Beard. Jimmy Beard and Geoff Brasser have been in red hot form lately, but have they peaked too early.

Only time will tell, as Sue Davis, Kristy Gordon and Deb Watson have all been in solid form also.

The predicter has the Wannabees coming out on top and advancing to the grand final, 106 to 104.

All will be divulged on Saturday evening, when the grand finalists are decided.

Glenda Coulter, fresh from winning the August Monthly Medal, led the ball pool with 34 points with Jenice Krahnert, Mag Kiley and Lois Carnie all on 33 points.

A Pinehurst mixed competition was played and the winners from a scratch score were Shenna Gadsden and Chris Page (Yarrawonga).

The handicap winners were Beris Waylen and Dennis Pretty, both from Nyah West, and the runners-up were Deanne and Kelvin Free from Lakeside.
