The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MENS

MURRAY Downs Golf & Country Clubs’ men’s captain Mick Kiley has won the October monthly medal. Kiley, playing from his daily handicap of 20, shot a gross score of 89 to finish with a nett tally of 69 to win the much-sought-after monthly medal.

Kiley got away to a solid start but shot a dreaded nine on the par-five 12th hole, which nearly bought him undone, before rallying with a nice birdie on the 17th hole to come home strongly and be awarded the medal.

His playing partner for the day, Ken Gregory (8), was the best in Division 1 with a nett 70, finishing just ahead of Sean Baumgurtel (5) with 71 nett.

Malcolm Seton-Stewart (13) was the best in Division 2 with 71 nett, from Gary Bailey (17) at 72 nett, while in Division 3 Andrew Guy (25) came out in front of Joey Higgins (28) when both players finished with a nett 70 score.

Scores of nett 74 and better were required to get a ball, while the nearest-the-pin shots were hit by Lleyton McLean on the 2nd, Andrew Gilchrist who took home the jackpot of $153 on the 11th, Sam Davis on the 15th and Dale Smith on the 5th after he almost holed out with a shot to 6cm.

Sunday’s medley 4BBB stableford competition was taken out by Janette Tucker and Rob O’Brien with a score of 48 points, just ahead of Jenice Krahnert and Peter Stanbrook with 47 points, with Gary Blencowe and Malcom Devereux finishing third with 46 points.

Other players required at least 43 points to be eligible for a ball, while the nearest the pins went to Matt Loats on holes 5 and 15, Lynne Bishop on the 2nd and Grant Ford on the 11th.

All golfers are reminded that the upcoming annual general meetings for men and women are scheduled for next week.

The men will meet on Monday, October 16, at 7pm in the Balcony Room and the women will meet after golf on Wednesday, October 18, at 2pm.

Next Monday, October 16, is the commencement of the Swan Hill Windows & Kitchens/TASCO Petroleum nine-hole summer competition.

It’s a teams event consisting of four players, with the team’s three best scores being recorded as the team score for each week.

The best individual score from each week will earn a $50 TASCO fuel voucher.

Entries are being taken through the Pro Shop.

The competition is set to run until 4pm on Sunday, December 17, with presentations to follow.
