MURRAY DOWNS MEN

ON Saturday afternoon, 78 men took to the course for the December monthly medal, won by Adrian Knee with a great score of net 66 off his 36 handicap.

A Grade winner Justin Thompson found some form also, recording a score of 69 net off his 1 handicap, with the ever reliable Ross Kenyon coming in second place with 71 net.

In B grade, Sam Davis continued his very consistent form of late, carding a 71 net to edge out Robert Burns on a countback.

C Grade runner-up Tony Ford also had a good day out with a 69 net.

Ball rundown required 73 net or better. NTPs were 2nd – Laurie Shipsides, 5th – Stephen Cameron, 11th – Craig Mathieson.

Sunday’s Stableford competition was won by Stuart Patterson with a great score of 42 points off his 14 handicap.

Jason Perry continued to show good form, coming runner-up in A Grade with 41 points.

B Grade winner Sean White narrowly pipped Chris Grant on a countback, both players registering 40 points.

Ball rundown required 37 points or better. NTPs were 2nd – Ryan Deveraux, 5th – Charlie King, 11th – Bradley Cockfield, 15th – Spencer Mckenzie.

Sunday concluded week 9 of the Swan Hill Windows & Kitchens and Ampol nine-hole summer comp.

The best score of the week went to Rob Merrett with 21 points.

In the overall competition, the President’s Men now have an unassailable lead, holding a score of 415 points with one week to go. Second place is a tight tussle with four teams on 386. Good luck to everyone for the final week.

Tuesday’s par event winner Dale Smith braved the heat to record a +1 score off his 10 handicap to narrowly beat Andrew Ferguson on a countback.

NTPs were 2nd – Ron Munro, 11th – Dale Smith.


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

ON Wednesday, 78 women teed off in an Ambrose pairs event on the Downs course.

Christmas celebrations were also on the agenda with all the golfers dressed in variations on the theme.

Sisters-in-law Val Hedwards and Di Nalder combined with great effect to score 60 net from their adjusted handicap of 10 to win the day.

Paula Pickert and Lois Carnie (5.5 handicap) 61.5 were the runners-up.

Next best score of 62 net came from Eileen Morath and Jo Williams, and Maralyn Morrison and Lynne Lawry.

Suzanne Napier, Glenda Coulter, Rhonda Barrow and Lisa Brady were rewarded for accurate shots on the par 3s.

Pam Austerberry has taken over the role of captain from Mag Kiley for the ensuing year. Mag thanked her committee and members for their support and this was acknowledged with resounding applause from the members for her three years of dedication to women’s golf at Murray Downs.

Please note that an informal meeting will be held after golf next Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the 2024 Championships.
