The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN

THURSDAY’S par competition had 71 players take to the course on another warm summer’s day.

The scoring matched the weather, with Malcolm Talbot taking out B Grade and the best score of the day with +5 off his 17 handicap.

Runner-up in B Grade was Tony Ford with a handy score of +1.

In A Grade, Bob Burns scored a steady round of +1 to claim the win over Dale Smith, who had square.

C Grade winner Michael Pickert had +2 to claim the win over Chris Mahon, who scored +1.

NTPs went to Wayne Wisby on the 2nd, and Ross Hastings on the 5th, 11th and 15th.

Saturday’s Stableford competition was some of the best scoring results we have seen in quite some time.

C Grade and overall winner Will Gardiner scored 43 points off his 25 handicap to claim top honours.

Runner-up was Zachary Haywood who also scored 43 points and could consider himself a bit unlucky.

A Grade winner Bobby Kelly found some form scoring 40 points off his 9 handicap, ahead of Paul Bethune finished runner-up with 39 points.

B Grade winner Darcy McGregor had a day out, scoring 43 points off his 18 handicap, while Jason Stevens came in second with 38 points.

A special mention to Andrew Peterson and Daniel Delmenico, who both recorded eagles on the 7th hole.

NTPs: 2nd Craig Davies, 5th Ash Free, 11th Bob Burns and 15th Paul Bethune.

On Sunday we held a medley 4BBB, with Barham GC visitors Jesse Mayne and Uli Van Rensburg lapping the field with an incredible score of 56 Stableford points.

Even more impressive was the fact that Jesse scored 53 points on his own off his 40 handicap.

Runners-up were Kobus Visser and Francois Dunn with 46 points. NTPs: 2nd Matthe Quaife, 5th Mitchell Croft, and 11th and 15th Malcolm Talbot.

Tuesday’s Stableford competition’s overall and A Grade winner Daniel Cruickshank had a great score of 39 points off his four handicap, to win on a countback from Mark Warren.

B Grade winner Kerrie McMahon from Riverside GC claimed the honours in B Grade with 38 points over Chris Mahon, who scored 37 points.

NTPs: 2nd Wayne Wisby, and 11th and 15th Mark Warren.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

IN cool and windy conditions, 51 women ventured out at Murray Downs on Wednesday.

Plus three was the best score of the day with Lynne Bishop (11) surviving a countback from Marg Moore (20) to win Division 1.

Lynne has recently purchased Big Bertha clubs from new professional Matt Docking and has been using them to great effect over the past couple of months.

In Division 2, Julie Overall (34) continued her winning form from last week with two up to win from Carolyn Zambelli (30) one up.

Maralyn Morrison, Diane Nalder and Jenice Krahnert also scored one up to lead the ball rundown.

Sue-Anne Beattie, Chris Warburton, Lynne Bishop and Carol Wiseman claimed the nearest the pin prizes.

A group of golfers known as the Golden Girls compete every Friday morning and at their yearly presentation recently, Marie Cruickshank and Jenny White tied for the Golfer of the Year title.

Marie is on the cusp of becoming a nonagenarian and is a great advertisement for the fact that golf is a game for all ages.
