AS the holiday season begins to wind up, our weekly comp fields start to get back to normal, and 45 players took part in Tuesday’s low-scoring Stableford competition.
Leigh Paynter’s 32 points was enough to get the win in A Grade, with Daniel Cruickshank runner-up with 31 points.
Brighton Lakes visitor Suzanne Howard had the best score of the day with her 34 points enough to win B Grade from Sebastian Parsegian with 27 points.

Out of the 80 players who took to the course on Thursday, it was our in-form police officer Shrek Peterson with the best score of the day.
His 40 points from his 9 handicap was a good reminder of the kind of golf he can play.
Stuart Holt’s 38 points was enough to get him runner-up on a countback.
B Grade winner Rob Merrett’s 39 points was enough to get the job done ahead of Rod Proctor with 37.
In C Grade, 39 points was also enough for Greg Daniel to get the win ahead of Rick Austerberry with 37.

Saturday’s perfect weather reflected in the scores, with 35 points needed to claim a prize in the ball rundown.
Scott Mathiske’s 41 points off his 4 handicap was good enough to claim A Grade honours from Luke Rodger’s with 38 points off his 2 handicap.
B Grade winner Rhys Bennett also had 41 points, narrowly edging out Zac Caccaviello with 40 points.
Tommy Wilkins carded the best score of the day to win C Grade with 42 points, while Ben Sartori continued his strong form to come runner-up with 38 points.

For Saturday’s par competition, 50 players took to the course.
Ash Free claimed honours in A Grade with a very good score of +3 from his 5 handicap, with Charlie King coming in second with +2 on countback.
Backing up last weekend’s win with another in B Grade was Matt Battenally, with his -1 enough to secure the win on a countback from Dane McLennan.

MURRAY DOWNS WOMEN
AT Wednesday’s four-ball event, 28 players teed off.
Lisa Brady and Nadine Cox combined exceedingly well to post 49 points to win from Eilleen Willox and Janette Tucker, 47 points.
Nadine is in the first throes of her golfing journey and has slowly but surely been reducing her handicap, while Lisa has started off 2024 with a bang.
Third-placegetters were Jenny Lynas and Deb Kelly, 45 points.
Judi Lonergan, Eilleen Willox, Chris Warburton and Therese McLennan were the nearest-the-pin winners.
On Saturday, Lisa Brady (26) scored 40 points to win from her granddaughter Mia Hirst (41) and Claris Bourne (28), both 36 points.
Suzanne McLellan and Sarah Clarke were closest to the pins on the 2nd and 11th.
Libby Gregory (27), three up, led a small field of Sunday golfers.
The Golden Girls are a group of women who play nine holes on a Friday morning.

The course is fully booked for the next two weeks so the comp will resume on February 9.
