MURRAY DOWNS MEN

A SMALL but strong field took to the course on Tuesday.

Current golfer of the year Mark Warren’s +4 was good enough to get him the win in A Grade, Donald visitor Mandy Male coming in second with +2.

B Grade winner Ian Gammon had square, while runner-up Greg Weybury carded -1.

NTPs: 2nd John Tripodi, 5th Spencer McKenzie, 11th Mandy Male, 15th Chris Mahon.

Thursday’s Stableford competition had 100 players entered.

Jason Baird recorded 40 points from his 12 handicap to take honours in A Grade ahead of Dale Smith with 39.

In B Grade, 40 points was again the winning score, this time from Anthony Carroll ahead of Jackson Quirk with 36 on countback.

Greg Daniels had the best score of the day to take home C Grade with 44 points off his 24 handicap, while Ken Veale came in second with 36 on countback.

NTPs: 2nd Greg Daniels, 5th Steve Bulmer, 11th Stephan Matthews, 15th Jason Stevens.

Saturday was our February edition of the monthly medal.

Matthew Collins was the winner, with his net 68 from his 3 handicap equating to one under par off the stick, surpassing his best ever score at Murray Downs.

Congratulations Matt.

A Grade winner Luke Merritt returned a score of net 70 from his 1 handicap, with Clifton springs visitor Malcolm Harford finishing just behind him with 71 net.

It was a close tussle in B Grade, Daniel Delmenico’s 71 net was good enough to win on a countback from James Downing.

In C Grade it was a battle of the brothers, this time Adrian Knee came out on top with 69 net ahead of Jamie Knee with 70 net.

Another strong field took to the course on Sunday.

Palmer GC visitor Paul Fitzgibbon took out A Grade with 37 points from his 3 handicap, ahead of Clifton Springs visitor Ross Parkinson with 36 countback.

Brenten Hogan blitzed the field on claim B Grade honours, with his 43 points enough to claim a seven-shot advantage over his nearest competitor Leon Burton with 36.

C Grade had to be decided on a countback, with Zac Haywood’s 37 points prevailing ahead of Joseph Doritos.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

NADINE Cox, Lisa Brady and Anne Webb have been in the winner’s lists at Murray Downs for the first month of the year and again featured in Wednesday’s event on the ultimate day of the month.

Lovely weather greeted 52 women to a course that has benefited from the summer rains.

Cox (35) and Kerry McDonald (37) both scored 38 points with the former winning the main prize in Division 2.

In Division 1, Brady (25) 37 points won on a countback from Webb (28).

Cassie Barnett (Hay) and Pam Austerberry, both 35 points, and Carolyn Zambelli and Maureen Brennan (Wycheproof), both 34 points, led the ball rundown.

Rosie Ficarra collected the jackpot on the 11th and the other nearest the pins went to Paula Pickert, Janette Tucker and Eilleen Willox.

Visitors have been out in force at the club and on Saturday, Yarrambat GC member Lorraine Maddelina (21), 35 points, won from Jill McIndoe (22), 34 points.

Eilleen Willox, 33 points, led the ball pool and Dione Heppell was the sole nearest-the-pin winner.

Dione Heppell (9), 37 points, won Sunday’s event and again collected a nearest the pin on the 11th hole.
