MURRAY DOWNS MEN

A SMALL group took to the course for Thursday’s mixed Stableford competition.

The winners had to be separated by a countback, with Robert Hinton’s 35 points coming out victorious ahead of reigning golfer of the year Mark Warren with 35 points as well.

NTPs 2nd Greg Weybury, 11th Wayne Wisby.

Numbers climbed for Thursday’s Stableford competition, with about 80 players braving the heat.

A Grade winner was our club professional Matthew Docking, with a fine score of 39 points from his -2 handicap, which was good enough to get the job done ahead of Craig Fletcher with 37 points.

B Grade winner Ron Munro had a good day out, scoring 38 points from his 18 handicap, while runner-up was Andrew Cameron, 35 points on countback.

The scoring stayed strong in C Grade, Bruce Wilson’s 37 points was good enough to get the win ahead of Michael Burns with 36 points, runner-up on countback.

NTPs 2nd Ross Hastings, 5th John Tripodi, 11th Paul Bethune, 15th John Tripodi.

This week’s Friday nine-hole competition winner was Doug Wood from Tooleybuc golf club with an ultra-impressive 24 points from his 31 handicap.

The nasty weather didn’t stop some fantastic scoring for Saturday’s Stableford competition.

A Grade winner Mark Warren found himself in the winners’ circle for the second time this week, with his 37 points good enough to hold off Lleyton Mclean on a countback with 37 points also.

B Grade winner Matt Harrop had the best score of the day, with his fantastic score of 46 points good enough to earn him a nine-shot victory ahead of Alistair Ferrier with 37 points.

NTPs 2nd Noah Starrs, 5th Lleyton McLean, 11th Stuart McLean, 15th Alistair Ferrier.

Scoring was strong again on Sunday, A Grade winner Darian Male fired the best score of the day with 41 points from his 13 handicap, while Mitchell Croft came in second with 37 points on countback.

B Grade winner Kobus Visser carded 39 points from his 23 handicap, while runner-up Tony McDonald had 37 on countback.

NTPs 2nd Darian Male, 5th Gary Blencowe, 11th Quenten Graham, 15th Mitchell Croft.


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THERE were 108 competitors who teed off in the annual Rutherford Street opening day event at Murray Downs on Wednesday.

The Ambrose in fours event is always well attended by visitors from local and metropolitan clubs.

Trophies were allocated to two sections, teams of seasoned golfers and teams with a novice golfer who were allocated handicaps for the day.

Winners of the golfers’ section were Jo Watts, Courtney Docking, Kristy Summerhayes and Karen Rees with a net score of 51.5 from their 11.5 handicap.

The novice section was won by Lyn Bishop, Michelle Holt, Carolyn Zambelli and Lisa Baker (13.5) with 56.5.

Runners-up in the two sections were Chris Warburton, Maree Allan, Mag Kiley and Kay Street 61 net, and Kristy Gordon, Lois Carnie, Paula Pickert and novice Kristy Kelly 59.5.

Rhonda Barrow, Leonie Lambert, Maralyn Morrison and Diane Nalder hit the most accurate shots to the par threes.

A small field ventured out in Saturday’s sizzling heat. Portsea Golf Club visitor Kaye Tomlinson (26) 36 points led the way from Kerry Gammon (34) 34 points and Kristy Gordon (15) 32 points.


VETERANS

THE monthly “Vets” Stableford competition was held at Kerang Golf Club in fine conditions on Tuesday.

The course was in great condition after the Triple Golfanza event finished on Monday, drawing 30 players.

The ladies winner with a score of 34 was Meryl Cameron, while runner-up was Pauline Jones with 29.

The men’s A Grade winner was Chopper Jacobson, a visitor from Queensland, with 36 on a countback from Greg Gin.

B Grade winner was Ben Marshall, another visitor from Queensland, with 34, and runner-up was Ken Jones with 32.

Ball pool went to Lorraine Howard 28, Dennis Pretty 35, J Manser, Gary Pay, Joe Tartaglia and Peter Anderson, another visitor from Queensland, all on 33.

NTPs on the 3rd M Cameron and J Brunt, 5th M Cameron and R Henshall, 9th M Cameron and G Gin, 13th L Howard and D Pretty, and 16th J Brunt.

Following the presentations the AGM was held and the following positions were re-elected: president Fred O’Bryan, secretary-treasurer R Henshall, captain G Wyte.

Club delegates are: Tooleybuc, Hank Van Der Veen; Kerang, Ron Schultze; Lakeside, Joan Foster; Barham, David Wilkinson; Murrabit, Lindsay Schultz; Cohuna, Lorna Stuchbree; and Nyah West, Dennis Pretty.
